Regular Monthly Volunteer day - Matakohe Limestone Island
MLI volunteers are a relaxed and friendly group of people who come together to help the resident Island Ranger wherever possible. A boat ride and fresh air are included!
Matakohe Limestone Island is an Island restoration project in the upper reaches of the Whangārei Harbour. The Island has been run by the 'Friends of Matakohe Limestone Island' (FOMLI) community group and Te Parawhau, on behalf of WDC since 1989. The Island's volunteer group meets on the first Wednesday of every month to help the resident Island Ranger out with a variety of jobs. These jobs include but are not limited to; gardening, weeding, tree releasing, planting, track maintenance, spraying, beach cleanups, and small fixit jobs. We try our best to cater for all backgrounds and abilities and we are always looking to welcome new volunteers. If you enjoy getting out in nature and giving back to the community, then we are sure you will enjoy spending time volunteering on Matakohe Limestone Island.
