Volunteer Companion - Far North Community Hospice
As a Volunteer Companion, you’ll provide companionship and emotional support to people in our care, either in their homes or in hospice settings. Your presence, conversation, and shared activities can bring comfort, joy, and connection to our clients and their whānau.
Volunteer Companions tailor their time to each client’s interests and abilities. Activities may include: Reading and book sharing, cards and games – a fun way to spark laughter, memory, and mental stimulation. Reminiscing and conversation – sharing stories, listening, and having “a good chat”. Private correspondence support – helping with letters, emails, or text messages to stay connected with loved ones. In‑home companionship – offering a caring presence so clients are not left alone and providing reassurance for families.

You don’t need previous experience - just a warm, patient, and empathetic nature, good listening and communication skills. Respect for confidentiality and diversity. Reliability and a genuine desire to support others. We value and support our volunteers every step of the way. We complete an interview and police check which is required for all volunteer roles. A Police background check is required for this role.
