Staff Lead - Executive Committee
Abbeyfield Whangārei is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit home providing affordable, family-style living that offers company and support for older people who are also independent. Residents live in their own rooms, share meals, and are supported by a small team of paid staff, while the governance of the home is provided by local volunteers.
We are recruiting a Staff Lead to join our Executive Committee.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys people leadership and wants to help a small charitable house run well.
What you would take responsibility for
• Being the committee lead for staff matters (housekeeper and weekend cooks)
• Overseeing recruitment, induction and training of staff
• Supporting staff with day-to-day issues and ensuring concerns are acted on
• Helping ensure good practice in performance, contracts, and employment records
• Bringing people-related matters to the executive committee for decision when needed
• Keeping the culture of the house calm, fair, safe and resident-focused
Requirements
• HR, people leadership, employment or contracts experience.
• Confident with guiding staff, setting expectations, and resolving problems early
• Comfortable being part of the Executive Committee and attending monthly meetings
• Warm, practical, steady under pressure, and able to work with empathy for older adults
• Available on a flexible basis (some weeks quiet, some weeks busier)
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
Monthly committee meeting are approximately 2 hours
Staff leadership varies week to week. Some weeks may require almost no input, while busier periods (e.g. recruitment, performance reviews) will require a more significant time contribution.
