Face to Face Literacy Coach in Dargaville

Are you passionate about literacy and keen to make a positive difference in your community? The Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust (RYALT) is looking for a caring and committed volunteer to support an adult student in Paeroa. You’ll meet regularly at a local library or community centre to provide one-on-one literacy support and will help someone open the door to new opportunities through learning.

You don’t need teaching experience, just a willingness to help, patience, and a genuine desire to support others. We’ll guide you every step of the way. If you’re friendly, reliable, and believe in the power of literacy to change lives, we’d love to hear from you!

Requirements

• Preferably has an educational background (but not essential)
• Patient and supportive in their approach
• Good computer skills
• Fluent in English - strong spoken, reading, and writing abilities
• Reliable and committed
• A friendly, empathetic personality
• Full training and ongoing support provided – no teaching experience required!

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

1–2 hours per week - 30–45 minute lessons, held once or twice a week

• In person, at a public venue such as a local library or community centre
