Kia ora, welcome to Volunteering Northland
The Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust is a non-profit organisation that assists adults and teenagers living in rural areas (or who are otherwise isolated) with literacy and numeracy. Tuition is free and our tutors can coach you over the phone or Skype.
Our volunteer coaches work with a student from 3-5 days a week for 30 minutes a day, using phone, mail, fax and video-conference. Students are able to access our online practice software if they have access to a computer with internet or can get to a library computer. The Trust runs school holiday Catchup Literacy Camps for high school students who want to improve their literacy skills.

To provide face to face reading and writing coaching for a local Adult Student based in Whangarei .
As a Literacy Coach, you will help the learners practice reading, writing, and spelling weekly, generally for an half hour to an hour either once or twice a week face to face in a community space.
Would you like to work with an adult student to help improve their reading and writing skills? We need volunteers to meet weekly with a student online using Zoom or Google Meet to help them with their reading and writing.
Do you love talking? Do you love your local community? Join us and be our local ambassadors to represent us in the community - help spread the word about our free services by helping us build and maintain relationships with local organisations and people.
