Face to Face Literacy Coach in Kerikeri

Are you passionate about literacy and making a positive impact in your community? Look no further! The Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust (RYALT) is seeking a dedicated volunteer literacy coach in Kerikeri to provide valuable support to an adult student in need. As a Literacy Coach, you have the opportunity to give back and make a real difference in someone's life. It's a fulfilling and enjoyable role that allows you to share your love for learning while empowering others to reach their full potential. What we're looking for: We welcome individuals with or without teaching experience, as we provide comprehensive training and ongoing support. Your enthusiasm, patience, and commitment are what matter most. 1-2 hours per week meeting at the local Kerikeri library. Why become a Literacy Coach? We provide the training required to be able to coach students and create a personalised learning plan. You work together to develop goals and select materials and activities to help learners reach their goals. This role is very important, and by doing it, you can change an adult or teenager learner's life and that of their family. By participating in this volunteering opportunity, you are helping achieve the following United Nations Sustainability Goals Goal 10 - Reduced inequalities

Requirements

Excellent spoken English, reading and writing skills. Must be fluent in English (verbal and written). Reliable. An analytical mind, friendly personality. We train you and give you all the support you need.

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

1-2 hours per week 30-45 min lessons once or twice a week as negotiated with the student, in person at a public venue such as library or community house. Minimum age requirement is 18 years old.
