Face to Face Literacy Coach in Whangarei
We have found that the learners intend to practice their reading and writing - but do not. So, as a Literacy Coach, you will help the learners practice reading, writing, and spelling weekly, generally for an half hour to an hour either once or twice a week face to face in a community space. We provide the training required to be able to coach students and create a personalised learning plan. You work together to develop goals and select materials and activities to help learners reach their goals.
You will be part of a welcoming Literacy Hub based in Whangarei, doing face to face coaching for those vulnerable and not able to read and write properly.
This role is very important, and by doing it, you can change an adult or teenager learners' lives and that of their family. You will be helping rural students/adult workers who are otherwise isolated learners to better their lives. By participating in this volunteering opportunity, you are helping achieve the following United Nations Sustainability Goals Goal 10 - Reduced inequalities
Requirements
Note: Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply.
Good computer skills. Excellent spoken English, reading and writing skills. Must be fluent in English (verbal and written). Reliable and patient with a friendly personality to put people at ease.
We train and give all the support you need with coaching so no previous experience required.
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
1-2 hours per week 30-45 min lessons once or twice a week in person at a public venue. This volunteer role offers flexibility but is more suited to a long term commitment and therefore not suitable for people who are looking for employment. However, we do have various short term roles available.
