Volunteers for Far North Search and Rescue
Far North Search and Rescue provide land based search and rescue operations to those that are reported missing, injured or lost. Our volunteers operate in suburban, urban, wilderness and rural areas including regional and forest parks and shorelines.
Our volunteers are on call 24/7 and offer their specialist search and rescue skills free to the public via the NZ police and the Rescue Coordination Centre.
We are on the lookout for more volunteers who are keen to work as part of a search team during operations, support with fund raising, advertising and events and help with running of our Wandersearch programme.
Comprehensive training is provided both internally and externally. A range of essential course/training is listed below:
- Outdoor first aid
- Navigation - GPS, compass, maps
- Search techniques
- River safety and crossings
- Stretcher and rope management
- Helicopter safety
- Tracking
There are many other courses and training on offer both internally and externally.
Requirements
Work well as part of a fun and friendly team, good communication skills and keen to learn. Physical fitness is an advantage but only if you are being deployed in the field. We are seeking skills in a range of areas and have roles to suit all.
A Police background check is required for this role.
