Assistants for Sistema After School Program

Sistema Whangarei-Toi Akorangi is initiated and led by volunteers from the Whangarei community and based on Venezuela's El Sistema movement, one of the world's most successful music and social development programs. We reach out to children who might not normally have the opportunity to participate.

We are looking for:

  • Assistant 'sweepers' to support children in their learning of a musical instrument by offering encouragement and presence.
  • As part of musicianship we are looking for assistants who can help with our singing and/or choir group for the children.

Requirements

Interest in music, willingness to work with juniors and being reliable.
Ability to play an instrument is a plus.
No musical expertise required for this role and all training is provided.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

Volunteers are needed for about 2 hours per week for 7 weeks of each term.
Choose your days. Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Hours are from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.
