Fighting weeds in Kerikeri Basin
We are looking for groups weeding in the Kerikeri River Scenic Reserve to enhance native forest regeneration. Weeds include jasmine, moth plant, climbing asparagus, Japanese honeysuckle, banana passion-fruit, Taiwan cherry, tobacco weed, loquat, monkey apple, kahili ginger, wandering jew, and African club moss, all of which threaten the next generation of forest plants.
Requirements
Knowledge of native plants is useful but not essential. A reasonable level of fitness is required for the walk into the site, which has some steep slopes, and for carrying out the bagged-up weeds to our composting bag near the Kerikeri DOC office.
