Driving Support

Interest in learning New Zealand sign language is growing as we make it more accessible throughout our country. We have active classes in Kaikohe, Whangārei, Warkworth, Helensville and Papakura and expanding! Our most active tutor is unable to drive and we need more volunteers to share the driving hours to get him to the classes he teaches, attend meetings and work on other kaupapa all around the place. Classes are scheduled in 8 - 12 week blocks and the timing of these are all different. We can consider your availability when scheduling these blocks so please contact us if you are interested in seeing if this could be a fit for you.

An added bonus is that you have the option of attending the sign language classes yourself to learn or practice NZSL - or spend time exploring the town where the class is taking place if you prefer.

Requirements

Full drivers license.
Safety conscious driving.

Time commitment

Shifts range from 5 hours pick up & drop off only through to overnight trips with expenses paid. Class timing changes each series of classes so there is flexibility in booking around what works for the right volunteer. Meals provided where appropriate. There are other drivers on the team so the load is shared and flexibility is helpful.
