Locomotive/ Tram Driver or Train Guard for Heritage Park
The Whangarei Steam and Model Railway Club is located in the Heritage Park grounds and operates diesel and a steam locomotive, jiggers and two 1924 restored trams for the public on running days. The Club is a mechanical version of the Men's Shed - anyone is welcome!
We are looking for volunteers to assist with running our steam engine, trams and jiggers, especially on the third Sunday of every month for Heritage Park Open Day. You will be fully inducted and taught how to manage our diesel locomotives, trams and jiggers, as we run a railway under NZTA guidance.
Are you more of a people person and can manage groups and sales well? We are also looking for Train Guards for selling tickets and platform management on running days.
Our main need is for the 3rd Saturday each month, but there will be need for your volunteering in between, as the public can hire the trains for birthdays and other events.
We invite those interested to contact the President who will arrange a tour of facilities and discuss possible involvement.
If you enjoy a cuppa and a natter as well as a bit of hard work at times... we can find plenty to occupy you!
