Board Member Volunteer (Governance Role)

We are seeking a volunteer Board Member to join our governance team at Whangārei Rape Crisis. This is a strategic (non‑operational) role where you will help guide the organisation, ensure strong governance, and support long‑term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide governance and strategic oversight
  • Contribute to organisational planning, policy, and risk management
  • Uphold the organisation’s values, kaupapa, and legal responsibilities
  • Attend one Board meeting per month and participate constructively
  • Join a sub‑committee if appropriate (optional, by agreement)

Induction, support, and governance resources are provided.

Requirements

We welcome people from diverse backgrounds. Skills and experience of interest include:

  • Governance or board experience (helpful but not essential)
  • Finance, legal, HR, community development, or strategic planning skills
  • Understanding of (or willingness to learn about) Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • A commitment to social justice, equity, and survivor safety
  • Lived experience and strong community connections are valued.

A Police background check is required for this role.

1 Board meeting per month (plus preparation)
