Athletics Northland Board Members
Athletics Northland is the regional sports organisation dedicated to promoting, supporting, and growing athletics across Te Tai Tokerau. We work closely with clubs, schools, coaches, officials, volunteers, and Athletics New Zealand to create opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate and thrive in athletics.
We are seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to join our Board and help guide the future direction of athletics in Northland.
Whether you are an experienced governor or looking to take your first step into governance, we welcome expressions of interest from people who bring a range of skills, experiences, and perspectives. A genuine understanding of, and passion for, athletics and community sport is highly desirable.
About the Role
As a Board Member of Athletics Northland, you will contribute to the leadership, governance, and strategic direction of the organisation. Working collaboratively with fellow board members and staff, you will help ensure Athletics Northland remains sustainable, inclusive, and well-positioned to support the growth and success of athletics across the region.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing strategic leadership and helping shape the vision and future direction of athletics in Northland.
Ensuring strong governance, including oversight of organisational performance, finances, risk management, and compliance.
Supporting and monitoring the implementation of Athletics Northland's strategic priorities and objectives.
Representing the interests of the athletics community and fostering positive relationships with clubs, schools, volunteers, community partners, local authorities, and Athletics New Zealand.
Promoting participation, inclusion, integrity, and equity across the sport.
Contributing expertise, ideas, and perspectives to board discussions and decision-making.
Acting as a champion for athletics within the wider Northland community.
Requirements

Are committed to helping grow participation and strengthen clubs and communities.
Can think strategically and contribute to good governance and decision-making.
Demonstrate integrity, collaboration, and a willingness to work as part of a team.
Are able to commit the time required to attend board meetings and contribute to key initiatives.
While experience in athletics or sport is an advantage, it is not essential. Our priority is building a diverse Board with a broad range of skills, perspectives, and lived experiences.
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
• Approximately 4 hours per month
• Attendance at monthly board meetings (remote options available)
• Participation in working groups, committees, or special projects where needed
