Athletics Northland is the regional sports body dedicated to promoting and developing athletics across Northland. We are on a mission to grow participation, nurture talent, and ensure that athletics remains a thriving and inclusive sport in our communities.
We are currently seeking an experienced, passionate and skilled individual to Chair the Board.
If you have governance experience and the time to help lead a newly formed board, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you’re an experienced board member or seeking your first governance role, your leadership and expertise can make a real difference in shaping the direction of athletics in our region.
About the Role
As Chair of the Athletics Northland Board, you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping the future of athletics in our region. Your responsibilities will include:
Leading the Board to set the strategic direction and vision for athletics in Northland
Ensuring strong governance, including oversight of risk management and financial performance
Supporting and guiding the key staff, ensuring accountability and alignment with strategic goals
Building and maintaining relationships with clubs, schools, community groups, and national sporting bodies
Championing equity, transparency, and integrity across all levels of the organisation
Requirements
We welcome expressions of interest from individuals who:
Have experience in areas such as governance, finance, law, administration, or communications
Understand fiduciary responsibilities or are committed to learning and applying best practice governance
Are community minded and passionate about creating inclusive sporting opportunities
Want to use their professional skills to make a meaningful impact in Northland
While experience in athletics or sport is an advantage, it is not essential. Our priority is building a diverse Board with a broad range of skills, perspectives, and lived experiences.
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
• Approximately 4 hours per month
• Attendance at monthly board meetings (remote options available)
• Participation in working groups, committees, or special projects where needed
