Respite Caregiver - Te Tai Tokerau
We are currently seeking individuals or couples based in Te Tai Tokerau to become a Kia Puāwai caregiver in our specialised foster care programme. If you have the space in your home, time to invest in caring for a young person, and would like to help them learn and succeed – this is a hugely rewarding role.
As a respite caregiver with Kia Puāwai, we offer you:

- 24/7 on-call support, including visits by your Practice Leader.

Requirements
As a respite caregiver, you will need:
- To be open to having a rangatahi live with you over the respite period
- A spare room and suitable home environment
- To complete Police and Oranga Tamariki vetting checks for yourself and household members
- To complete a medical reference check
- A reliable form of transport
- To be able to attend meetings and trainings as required
- To provide aroha and support positive outcomes for rangatahi
- To be willing to learn and implement support strategies for rangatahi
No experience is needed, but we need reliable respite caregivers, and previous experience working with tamariki and rangatahi is an advantage.
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
Respite caregivers with Kia Puāwai often provide shorter stays or respite care for tamariki and rangatahi over weekends or from one to two weeks.
We are happy to kōrero more with you to see what you could provide in this space.
Our team will support you and meet with you over the period that you are providing respite.
Training and meetings will often occur during the day/week, so some flexibility to be available to attend is essential.
We need respite caregivers who are able to provide stable and consistent respite support for our tamariki and rangatahi, so ideally, we are looking for someone who is willing to commit to an ongoing respite role.
