Youth Mentor - Mespa Solutions Foundation
MSF is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Youth Mentor to support young individuals aged 5-25 in the Northland regions. As a Youth Mentor, you will provide guidance, build trust, and motivate youth to overcome challenges and achieve their goals in areas such as education, sports, and personal development.
Your role will involve offering one-on-one and group mentoring, facilitating workshops focused on life skills and resilience, and promoting healthy choices. You will work closely with young people, their families, schools, and community organizations to create positive change and provide opportunities for success.
The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for helping youth, particularly those from diverse or at-risk backgrounds, and have experience in mentoring, coaching, or a related field. Requirements
- Passion for working with youth, both advanced and especially those from at-risk or diverse backgrounds.
- Experience in mentoring, coaching, or a related field (e.g., social work, education, sports).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and build trust with youth.
- Cultural competence and respect for various backgrounds and experiences.
- Ability to facilitate MSF workshops and activities focused on life skills, resilience, and goal setting.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of local communities and challenges, particularly in Northland.
- First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Full driver’s license (preferred).
Desirable:
- Experience in sports coaching or fitness mentoring.
- Knowledge of the youth development sector.
- Experience working with iwi and local community groups.
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment
MSF offers flexible time commitments, this role is currently part-time with potential growth offering regional locations. The exact hours will vary depending on the needs of the community and program participants, but the position typically requires flexible hours that may include occasional evenings and weekends to accommodate youth schedules and community events.
The role is designed to be adaptable, allowing mentors to balance their professional and personal commitments while making a positive impact in the lives of young people.
