Whakaora Kai – Afternoon Food Rescue Support
Whakaora Kai - Food Rescue Northland was started under the umbrella of One Double Five Whare Āwhina Community House. Whakaora Kai Food Rescue Northland collects and distributes quality surplus food to community organisations registered with Food Rescue Northland, that supply people in need.
Food collected by Food Rescue Northland helps feed hungry people and protects the environment by preventing food waste going to landfill where it produces methane. Redistributing food reduces Carbon emissions, reduces waste in landfill and benefits people across Northland who receive nourishing kai via community groups that work with us.
The purpose of this volunteer role is to work as part of a volunteer team to support the smooth running and increase the capacity of Food Rescue Northland.
Volunteers work in teams and will support our drivers to do pick ups and deliveries, sorting, labeling and repackaging food, end of day clean up and assisting with administrative tasks.
