Tutukaka Land Care (TLC) was established in 2003 with the aim of protecting and enhancing the residual population of North Island Brown Kiwi found in the coastal forest stretching from Ngunguru to Sandy Bay. Our focus today has extended to releasing, protecting and monitoring Pateke (Brown Teal) and other key bird species.
Volunteers are required to help us expand our teams to include plant pest control (to help protect and support our natural habitats) and are to start outcome monitoring, so we can quantitatively report on numbers and changes in abundance and distribution of key bird species.
We are looking for a bird enthusiast - someone who can distinguish the ordinary from the extraordinary and be as excited as we are about the amazing diversity in our wetlands.
Bring along the whanau, rope in the friends, bribe your neighbours with some kai and come and help 'Keep Tutukaka Beautiful' with beach cleanups.
As part of our Keep Tutukaka Beautiful program we carry out targeted 5 minute bird counts in Tutukaka. Come and join us to learn how to identify 12 of our native birds and how we record them.
Come and enjoy the outdoors with a fun and enthusiatic group that is committed to ' Keep Tutukaka Beautiful!' Wednesdays between 9:30 and 12:30 to help restore our plant habitats on the Tutukaka Coast!
