Recorder, OK Boomer! Love Listening to Birds?

Kia ora! Keep Tutukaka Beautiful is a collaborative of organisations based on the Tutukaka Coast who are invested in looking after the environment by protecting and restoring our taonga.

Part of this programme is to monitor our signifcant species, such as Matuku-hurepo or Australasian Bittern. We place automatic listening devices out in key wetland habitat in our rohe to record the BOOM of the male matuku.

The survey results are collated by our local landcare groups and help us to be able to be able to understand presence/absence, abundance and distribution of species. The results are also shared on a national level in the OK Boomer! Survey

Training is provided :)

Specific requirements
Ideally we are looking for a bird enthusiast - someone who can distinguish the ordinary from the extraordinary and be as excited as we are about the amazing diversity in our wetlands.

You will need to be able to sit still for hours and listen to bird calls, identifying amongst these the boom of the bittern/matuku and recording it in our project app.

This work can be done from home and you will need a computer that  is connected to the internet and can access cloud based (google drive) audio files and have adequate speakers to amplify the sound. Each time you here a boom you will add this to your call count. You record this via a app so having a relatively up to date mobile phone or tablet (ipad) would be handyl  You can also record the results on a computer connected to the internet as well.
