Nature Needs Your Help on the Tutukaka Coast - Weedy Wednesdays
Tutukaka Landcare is focussed on bringing back the birds to the beautiful Tutukaka Coast. We do this by restoring (protecting and supporting) our native species.
This opportunity is with our specialist weed action team (SWAT) who visit lots of unique places (public and private) on the Tutukaka Coast every Wednesday to help remove pesky plants that are taking over our natural habitats.
We invite you to come and join us for our fun and often educational 'Weedy Wednesdays".
These events are run every Wednesday (from October to February inclusive) between 9:30 and 12:30 or 10am to 12noon and cater for a variety of different skill levels (from no skills to botanists!)
You will work at your own pace...you might be a ginger ninja, keen for a bit of bush bashing to seek out elusive weeds or be happy to sit in a patch of seedlings and pluck them out while taking in the sights and sounds of your surrounds.
Every fortnight we cross the Ngunguru River to the Ngunguru Sandspit. Boat transport is provided in most cases else its a short kayak across. Details are posted/can be provided for the alternate weeks which are often on public reserves or private places.
No training is required, we give a full on-site training.
Tools, gloves and protective equipment is provided.
The work is outdoors so a reasonable level of fitness to be able to amble along with the group is important, with everyone encouraged to work at their own pace.
You will need long clothes (pants and shirt) to protect yourself against the elements and environs, water and a snack to keep you energised and your own personal allergy medication (we have a basic first aid kit).
Our events suit people who enjoy being in the outdoors and have an interest in restoration.
