Volunteer Coordinator - Reotahi, Whangārei Heads
The 'Taking Back Reotahi group was formed in the summer of 2019 and have been meeting regularly to deal to weeds around the Whangārei District Council owned reserve. We meet in the carpark of the Beach Rd end of the coastal walkway all year round at 9am until 11.30am. We focus primarily on controlling the weeds from our ‘Dirtiest Dozen’ list - the worst offenders in this area and are very proud of the work achieved so far.
We are currently looking for a Volunteer Coordinator with a passion for forest restoration to lead our capable group of volunteers every 4th Sunday of the month. This would involve sending our email reminders prior to the events, bringing equipment (most have their own already), briefing participants on the mornings tasks including H&S requirements, assisting volunteers with correct weed control techniques, and bringing morning tea for the end of the session.
Full training will be given.
This person would ideally have Growsafe training and first aid, but it can be provided if not.
Must be confident to lead a small team.
Must have good plant ID skills for both native & introduced.
Must enjoy hands-on work and working in the bush.
Punctual and well organised.
