Trap and bait station service
BHCT is on the "hunt" for some new volunteer trappers at Bream Head Scenic Reserve. Bream Head is this year's Northland Regional Council award winners for Environmental Action in Pest Control. And even though it is voluntary, there are great benefits mostly in terms of mental and physical wellbeing...
There's nothing better for the mind or body than a walk through the beautiful native bush of BHSR.
A good level of fitness is needed. Training and support is provided.
Onsite training will be provided. No license is required to load the toxin used.
A good level of fitness and some "bush saviness" is important and the ability to carry up to 10kg (includes own personal items such as lunch and drink bottle etc). Bait station and possum lines will need to be checked and re-baited once per month (within the first two weeks of each month). The lines are approx 2 – 3 kms in length and will take approximately 3-4 hours to complete. Most are not formed earth/gravel tracks, but marked lines through cut vegetation. Time to complete will vary depending on level of fitness and weather conditions. Some of your own equipment is required including a fully charged and working cellphone; sturdy footwear and appropriate outdoor clothing; small day pack for food, water, cellphone & rain jacket. Waist pouch bag will be provided for carrying toxin, bait, tools, etc. Minimum commitment of 3 months is required - a longer term commitment preferred.
