Toutouwai and Popokatea Survey at Bream Head
Bream Head Scenic Reserve will be conducting our annual count of North island robin (Toutouwai) and whitehead (popokatea) and we are looking for fit and keen amateur birders to help with this important monitoring.
North island robin/Toutouwai were translocated into the reserve in 2016 and Whitehead (Popokatea) were (re) introduced in 2017. BHCT volunteers conduct an annual survey to see how these beautiful little birds are fairing in our forest. Volunteers would be accompanied on the reserves trap lines - stopping regularly to play calls and listen for responses.
On the job training will be provided but knowledge of these birds and their calls will be an asset.
A good level of fitness is required as well as sturdy footwear and a day pack.
