Provide that unique human touch by caring for people who need extra support
We seek volunteers with a compassionate nature to work in our in-patient unit. The volunteer works within the nursing team, assisting with the care and support of patients while here for symptom control, respite care and sometimes end-of-life care. This volunteer helps support patients and families/Whanau by being a 'human being' providing listening, caring discussion and company, delivering prepared meals, as well as assisting with light laundry duties. This is a super rewarding volunteer role!
The IPU runs 24/7 so volunteers are able to choose a 4 hour shift that fits their lifestyle any day of the week - morning, afternoon or evening. We can be flexible with shift times for those with time constraints.
Training starts with a 2-hour orientation session, followed by 4 x 4-hour buddy shifts where you learn the roles activities from an experienced Team Trainer. Induction and Essential skills training is mandatory within the first 6 months and must be repeated every two years. Specific requirements
Reliability, a "people person", good mobility, good conversationalist, using your initiative, having a sense of humour, and finding enjoyment in helping others. Very reliable replying to emails and txts.
