Support Hospice at our In-Patient Unit (Tikipunga)

We seek volunteers to work in our in-patient unit on various shifts in a 7 day roster whether 8am-midday, midday to 4pm or 4pm-8pm In the unit we care for patients whilst in situ for symptom control, respite care and sometimes end of life care. The volunteer role is to work with nursing staff in the care and support of patients and families/whanau for company, delivery of prepared meals except weekend mornings when they are cooked by volunteers, laundry and light housekeeping.
This is a very rewarding volunteer role.

Training
1 x 2 hour session with a team leader, 4 x 4 hour practical sessions that cover the role activities and departments involved. Essential skills training is mandatory within the first 12 months and repeated every 2 years.

Specific requirements
Personality, a love of working with people, mobility, good conversations skills, enjoyment of being busy and quiet and taking part in our education programme. Basic cooking ability is important and absolute reliability. Excellent communication with hospice through text or email is essential
