Last chance for 2018-Come give nurturing massage therapy to patients & carers
Nurturing Touch is a special palliative massage that trains volunteer therapists give to both patients and their main carer, whilst people are being cared for in our unit at hospice, in their homes and at our day programme on alternate Fridays at hospice. Hours in the community are to suit both volunteer & patient/carer.
Training has 3 distinct parts.
- Shadowing a volunteer team trainer in our in-patient unit for 1 x 1hr & 1x 4 hour shifts to become used to why and how we operate.
- Massage training which consists of 1 x 6 hour training from 9.00am-4.00pm on Monday 10th October + 2 x supervised sessions in our day programme on a Friday morning, once the trainer confirms the trainee is ready, graduation.
- Essential Skills training which includes mobilising and transferring November 15th on the afternoon or evening.
- Stage 1 = hands & feet, Stage 2 = legs, back, shoulders
Be a good listener
Be prepared to practice on friends and family to keep your skill up
Make a commitment for minimum of a year
Be willing to massage hands and feet for Stage 1
