Support Hospice at our In-Patient Unit (Tikipunga)
We seek volunteers with a compassionate nature to work in our in-patient unit. The unit is run 24/7 and offers the volunteer an opportunity to work alongside nursing staff in the care and support of patients while in situ for symptom control, respite care and sometimes end-of-life care. The volunteer also helps support families/Whanau for company, deliver prepared meals, as well as assist with light laundry duties. This is a very rewarding volunteer role. There is an opportunity to work as a 'casual' volunteer or work a permanent shift each week. Morning shift is 8:00am-12noon. Afternoon shift is 12noon-4:00pm. Evening shift is 4:00-8:00pm. We can build in flexibility for those with time constraints.
Training consists of 1x 2-hour orientation session with a team trainer, as well as 4x 4-hour buddy shifts which cover the role activities. Essential skills training is mandatory within the first twelve months and is repeated every two years.
Reliability, a bright personality, a "people person", mobility, good conversationalist and an enjoyment of helping others.
