Marine VHF Radio operators

Marine VHF coverage is a vital part of keeping the Far North maritime community safe. Based in Doubtless Bay and covering a Marine VHF area from Whangaroa on the east coast to the top of the Hokianga Harbour on the west coast, volunteers are required to log trip reports for vessels departing and entering any of these ports and react to distress calls. This is an interesting and informative opportunity. Meet new and interesting people, and enhance your CV.

Shifts are 4 1/2 hours long: 8.30am-1.00pm and 1.00pm- 5.30pm. You should be able to be rostered on for a minimum of one shift every two weeks.

We are looking for volunteers on weekends and weekdays. You will be working from home, with the equipment we provide for you.

Training
You will get an induction into marine VHF Radio operations. Equipment provided.

Specific requirements
  • Exceptional hearing and diction
  • Clear, concise handwriting
  • knowledge of boating or an interest in fishing
  • 18 years and over
  • landline
  • clean Police record
