Gallery Attendants

If you love history or art, you’re the person we’re looking for. Gallery Attendants will be based in Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi, in our main gallery Ko Waitangi Tēnei or our temporary exhibition gallery. This role involves being a presence in the galleries to answer questions from our visitors, and assisting staff where necessary. Some light cleaning of display cases may be required.

Ko Waitangi Tēnei tells the story of New Zealand from the discovery by Kupe to present day, so this gallery is for the history buffs, or those that want to learn about New Zealand. The temporary exhibition gallery houses art exhibitions, so if you love art this is the place for you.

Training
Training will consist of learning the content of the galleries to a point where you feel confident answering questions from our visitors. Further learning will be encouraged, and access to our library will be given to those who wish to go beyond the information presented in the galleries.

Specific requirements
Good communication skills, consistency and punctuality are a must. A basic knowledge of New Zealand history is good, but a willingness to learn is essential.
