Forest Restoration Planter

Out Trust manages 7 reserves in Central & Western Northland - all at various stages of forest restoration. Many of our reserves are a mixture of established native forest contiguous with the Waipoua Forest and either former pasture or pine plantation - in the process of regeneration. Two of our reserves: Michael Taylor Kiwi Reserve and Elvie McGregor Reserve both have extensive areas of pasture and have needed supplementary planting in the past in order to speed up the regeneration process. 2024 is the final year that we will be carrying out planting and we have 25,000 stems in total to go in the ground. We have 3 staff that will be based at our Waipoua headquarters throughout the planting period, and we may be able to host any volunteers here also if anyone would like to volunteer over multiple days. There is a house with a fireplace and reliable internet connection. Food provided.

  • Physically fit and happy to be planting in sometimes less than ideal weather (wind and showers).
  • Own transport to our base/head quarters
  • Sturdy footwear, preferably boots.
  • Warm clothing
  • Raincoat

Time commitment

Ideally any volunteers would stay at our headquarters and help us plant over multiple days - similar to a WWOOF scenario where you're working approx. 4 hours for food and accommodation. Day volunteers would also be very appreciated if staying over doesn't work.
